Many of us will be feeling the effects of the colder weather over the next few weeks as ice and snow has started to creep across the UK. Driving in these types of conditions are by far not idea but often have to be done in order to get to work, take children to school etc.
You need to allow a little more time in the morning to get your car defrosted and ready to drive on the roads. Although it may be tempting it is not advisable to pour hot or warm water over your window screen in order to defrost it quickly. The sudden change in temperature can cause the screen to crack or shatter, especially if there is already chips in it.
The best way to defrost your car is to start the engine, put the heaters on and allow it to run and the ice melt away. This can take time and means you will have to sit in a cold car while this happens unless you have a secure driveway or garage that you can leave it running unattended.
When you start your car, use a scrapper to remove the majority of the snow and ice. This will speed up the process and allow you to be on the road quicker. As the ice defrosts you will probably notice that the windows start to get misted up. You must wait until this has cleared before you start to drive the vehicle as it will massively affect your visibility.
