Tyre Safety

When it comes to cars, tyres are one of the most important safety features. Worn down tyres, under or over inflated tyres and damage tyres are responsible for a large number of accidents in the UK every day.

Your tyres are checked during an MOT for damage or wear and if they are below the legal limit of 1.6 mm across ¾ of the tyres tread then you will have to replace them before it is allowed to pass and obtain a valid MOT certificate.

Many garages recommend changing your tyres when the tread depth gets between 2mm and 3 mm as after this, it is believed that it can affect your stopping distance meaning that should you have to do an emergency brake, you are likely to not be able to stop in time.

With damage, it is hard to tell sometimes without taking the wheel off as the damage to the tyre may well be on the inner edge. Punctures are a popular problem with tyre and depending where they are, some can be repaired.
