What can you do to maintain your car between services?

It is very important to look after your car if you want to try and avoid having costly bills arising. Obviously, you cannot avoid everything happening but maintaining your car to a high standard will help to try and prevent this.

All vehicles require services at different intervals depending on the make, model, age and mileage. You can find out when a vehicle is due to be serviced by looking in the handbook. Here you will find a service schedule which will tell you what service schedule is recommended by the manufactures and also what items should be changed / checked at each service.

If you do not look after your vehicle adequately and get it serviced when it should be then you run the risk of things going wrong with the vehicle which may have been preventable. Funding the cost of a service for your vehicle can be worrying. You may decide to take out a service plan which will allow you to spread the costs of a service out over a monthly basis. Another way to save money is to do a part service halfway through the year. For example, if you drive a petrol car then you may want to replace the spark plugs at a different time – not done when it is serviced. Buying and replacing the spark plugs is a relatively simple job and means you would be able to reduce the service bill when it’s next due.
