Whenever you buy a car whether it be brand new or second hand you should always try and test drive it. Most garages will allow this and will often ask you to drive it to be sure that you like it before you commit to buying it. If you are not happy test driving the car then why not ask a friend or family member to do it for you or even the salesman (whilst you are passenger) so you can at least get a feel for how comfortable it is and listen out for any strange noises that may need investigating.

You should always check if you are insured to drive a car on a test drive. Most dealerships have trade plates which allows the car to be driven under their insurance, but if you are buying from a private buyer then you will need to check that your insurance covers you to drive any car that you do not own and that the car is insured elsewhere buy the current owner.
